This Sunday Stash is a big amount of one simple and easy to make food that is able to be mixed and matched with vegetables, meat as well as pasta, grains and grains to make meals for the entire week (or in the case of frozen meals it can be used throughout the whole month).
This month for our Sunday Stash We’re preparing something fresh and sweet the strawberry Compote. Ideal for making use of leftover any fruit you’ve picked up on an adventurous strawberry picking trip (or Costco run), this easy fruit puree can be used to make sweets, breakfasts and snacks throughout the week.
For making it, you’ll need the following ingredients: strawberry sugar salt, sugar and the juice of a lemon (zest and juice, or you could substitute vanilla beans in place of it’s zest). All of the ingredients are simmered until the jam becomes thicker and more jammy, that takes between 40 and 45 minutes.
It calls for 4 pounds of fresh strawberries, which will yield approximately six cups. Compote can be divided into smaller containers and then frozen for upto three months or put in the refrigerator until a week if you don’t consume it prior to that time. I enjoy a small bowl of it all by itself for dessert, however there are many different ways to make it:
1. SPREAD IT ON TOAST
It is recommended to use good large, wide slices of bread for this recipe. Think challah or a crumbly country loaf. Toast the bread, then butter the bread before spreading the compote in a large amount on top.
2. MAKE FROZEN YOGURT POPS
Mix strawberry compote with plain whole milk yogurt into a bowl. Then put it into molds for popsicle. You can also spoon layers of yogurt and compote into the molds to create beautiful swirled looks.
3. ADD IT TO A SMOOTHIE
Put a few spoonfuls in the blender along with milk and yogurt, cinnamon along with a few tablespoons of oatmeal that you can quickly cook to make a simple healthy, nutritious breakfast.
4. SERVE IT OVER POUND CAKE
An ounce of cake pound with the compote layer and a spoonful of freshly-whipped cream and you’ll have the easiest strawberry shortcake you’ll ever taste.
5. PAIR IT WITH PANCAKES OR WAFFLES
Make a small compote by heating it in a small pot and serve on top of the pancakes made with buttermilk and home-cooked waffles to give your breakfast a quick breakfast upgrade.
6. TURN IT INTO A CRISP
Use the compote to make the base of a homemade crisp with our recipe-free method. Because the fruit has already been sweetened, it is possible to skip the sugar and top it off in the buttery topping prior baking.
7. LAYER IT WITH YOGURT AND GRANOLA
A healthy and simple breakfast option is Bowls (or for those who want to be fancy, a glass of parfait) packed with yogurt layers with strawberry compote, as well as homemade Granola.
8. TURN IT INTO TURNOVERS
Top squares of store-bought puff pastry with compote, fold into triangles, and bake to make exceptionally easy–but extremely impressive–strawberry turnovers.
9. ADD A SPOONFUL TO YOUR FAVORITE COCKTAIL OR MOCKTAIL
Our favorite margarita-rose cocktail by shaking two spoonfuls of Compote, tequila juice along with roses and an Ice cube. (Or make this more extravagant mix of gin and yogurt.) If your kids want some sort of “cocktail” of their own make them pour the contents of the glass, then top it with seltzer. Finish by placing a strawberry on top of the glass for garnish.
10. SPOON IT OVER ICE CREAM
It’s not much simpler — or more delicious than this serving: a spoonful of vanilla and one spoonful of the compote
Strawberry Compote ingredients:
The strawberry sauce is easy to make and delicious with various treats. Here’s how for making it:
Strawberries. The star of the show! Fresh, sweet, ripe as well as juicy, strawberries are easily available during season of spring as well as summer. This recipe can be used with frozen berries as well!
Sugar. Start with about 1/3 cup of sugar then test the sauce. If you prefer the sweetness of your compote it is possible to increase the sugar.
Citrus zest, and juice. Both are optional ingredients, so if do not have them there’s no need to worry. But they give a lively taste, which is really tasty.
Strawberry compote recipe
This recipe couldn’t be any simpler! There’s nothing to it beyond mixing some basic ingredients over the stove top.
Combine and simmer the ingredients. In a pot at medium-low heat, mix ingredients and bring to a simmer that is very mild.
The recipe is ready to cook. Stir frequently as the berries cook. They begin to break down and they become an extremely thick sauce. You can also lightly crush the strawberries if you do not like the sauce to be as large as it is.
Serve and Enjoy. You can serve warm or allow the sauce to cool and then store it within an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to a week. Enjoy!
